We gathered for a celebratory luncheon of International Women’s Day at the New Westminster Women in Business, and it was a day that left me with gratitude and another reminder of why these events matter and how powerful it is when women show up for one another.
While we celebrate women every day, not just during the day of celebration, International Women’s Day gives us a moment in the calendar to pause and reflect.
I witnessed my boss, Paige Strand, win Female Business Leader of the Year, alongside other wonderfully talented women who won other groundbreaking rewards. This recognition is monumental and it made me realized that leadership isn’t a solo journey, but community plays a huge part.
The Importance of Community and Support
Laura Jones gave an impactful speech and what stuck with me during her talk was: women are the driver of economic activity in our local communities. This sentence rings true, and the women nominated alongside me proof of that; they are remarkable innovators, leaders, and changemakers that continuously contribute to a stronger, more inclusive community.
The world may often set us up to compete, but events like this reminds us that true impact happen when we collaborate, share the knowledge, mentor others, and celebrate each other’s milestones. It’s all about the conversations, and collective courage that drive us forward to make all the significant changes. I’m proud to be a part of this empowering community.
